First, Shana tova to those celebrating Rosh Hashana today! 5779 is going to a beautiful year of sweetness, goodness, and Democratic victories. (I can just feel it.)
Second: I want you to listen a Crooked Media podcast: Chapter 13 of Jon Favreau’s docu-series, The Wilderness. I was lucky to sit down with him earlier this year to tell our story; for this chapter, he also talked with folks like Keith Ellison of the DNC, Jane Kleeb of the Nebraska State Democratic Party, Van Jones, and most importantly: a few candidates, including our very own Jennifer Carroll Foy and Danica Roem.
If you need inspiration, listen. If you’re curious for more details on our philosophy behind candidate recruitment, listen. If you want to hear about the future of the Democratic Party, listen. I’m not usually such a shill like this, but I cried multiple times while listening on my morning dog walk, and that’s pretty atypical for me. Can’t recommend this highly enough. It’s worth your time.
Next: Winners!! Congrats to Tizzy Lockman in Delaware for winning her state senate primary last week, to Conseulo Hernandez for winning a seat on the Sunnyside School Board in Arizona, Jordan Acker for winning the Democratic nomination for University of Michigan Regent (fun fact: he’d be the first regent to graduate from UM this century…), and Maria Robinson for MA state house. Hot take: Winning is great.
This week we’ve got the final round of primaries in New Hampshire on Tuesday and New York on Thursday. As you know, the NYTimes has endorsed three of our candidates for NY state senate, Zellnor Myrie, Alessandra Biaggi, and Jessica Ramos. (The NY Daily News also jumped in on behalf of Alessandra and Zellnor.) We are SO excited for them, and for everyone else up this week. Win or lose, they’ve made the state better.
Other reading from the last week…
Bustle had a great story on women candidates supporting one another that includes stories from RFS candidates Amanda Septimo, Jessica Ramos, and Alessandra Biaggi.
We reignited off our Why We Run series on Medium with the story of Dave Hutchinson. He’s running to make law enforcement more inclusive and more respectful, and he would be the first LGBTQ sheriff in the Midwest.
Why We Run: Dave “Hutch” Hutchinson
With two months to the general election, we want to show off some of our inspiring RFS- endorsed candidates in a new…medium.com
Katrina vanden Heuvel had a stellar column in the Washington Post about Andrew Gillum and the ride of the progressive pipeline:
“Gillum’s victory is not simply a reaction to the Trump administration, nor is Gillum an overnight sensation. His success is a long time in the making as he has worked his way through the leadership pipeline for progressive candidates. Strengthening this pipeline will be critical for the progressive movement to sustain victories such as his in the years to come.”
Finally, if you missed President Obama’s speech in Illinois, it’s worth catching up on.

Thanks for making all this possible. It’s because of you!
P.S. A few events coming up… 9/20 in NYC, 9/26 in Santa Monica, 9/27 in Los Angeles, 10/4 in D.C., 10/4 in Madison, and 10/11 in Austin.
