Feel Good Update: 58 new candidates to love & news about our first Party for Something speaker
We endorsed 58 new candidates!! They’re amazing. We also announced Stacey Abrams as our first Party for Something speaker. Get the details.
First, huge news: We endorsed 58 new candidates!! They’re amazing. We’ve got incredible folks running for municipal office in Indiana, two educators running in Louisiana, an amazing advocate running for Boston City Council, a current student at the University of Southern Mississippi running for MS state house, a 2017 RFS alum running again for city council in Missouri after spending the last two years advocating for clean energy & recycling, the youngest openly gay candidate for office in Waukesha, WI, and Rhonda Hart, the mom of a victim of a school shooting who’s now running for school board in order to protect all the kids in her district in Texas.
We’ve also re-endorsed a number of our 2017 Virginia candidates, including Delegates Danica Roem, Chris Hurst, Jennifer Carroll Foy, Kelly Fowler, and Schuyler Van Valkenburg.
This delighted us to no end:
That brings us up to 98 candidates in 2019 ALONE. There is no such thing as an off year.
With that in mind: Elections are happening all the damn time — last week, both Vania Guevara and Carlos Garcia advanced to run-offs for Phoenix City Council. Next week, Tina Belge is up in a special election for a seat in the South Carolina state senate.
In alumni news: Nebraska state Senator Megan Hunt is pushing to expand vote-by-mail to more counties. Massachusetts Senator Becca Rausch is leading the charge to fight homelessness. Everton Blair, the youngest member of the Gwinnett School Board in Georgia, is taking on a wave of sexual misconduct in his school district. Michigan state Senator Mari Manoogian spoke with Deadline Detroit about her first year in the capitol.
Not-so-shameless plug: If you’ve got the time, take 6 minutes and listen to our interview with Chicago WBEZ’s Morning Shift.
And finally, a Party for Something update: The big D.C. event has moved to May 21st, and we’re beyond excited to announce our first keynote speaker, Democratic nominee in the 2018 Georgia gubernatorial election, former Minority Leader in the GA State House, and all-around icon, STACEY ABRAMS!!! Early sponsors include ActBlue, Priorities, Daily Kos, NARAL, 270 Strategies, Amalgamated Bank, BPI, CrowdPAC, Crooked Media, DSPolitical, Clare & Stephen Krupin, Newco Strategies, Precision, and Yelp. If you want to attend, sponsor, or learn more, details are here.
Thanks for making all this possible. We’re so excited about what’s coming next.
