Feel-good update: Election news & a record number of women running in Nebraska (!)
Happy Monday! Some updates on our win rate - and a few stories that'll make you smile.
Happy Monday!
So far in May, 11 Run for Something candidates have faced contested elections, and FIVE have moved on to the general. That’s about in-line with our 2017 win-rate — just about half — far exceeds any expectations we might have about first-time candidates. We’re so proud of the folks who’ve moved on to the general election or won their local race, and we’re just as proud of the ones who’ve lost. We’re working on programming for those incredible leaders, to ensure they stay engaged and that if they decide to run again, we’ve got their backs.
Just a few other updates from the last week…
Our political director, Sarah Horvitz, joined Generation Progress for the next stop of our college tour down in Atlanta. The event was specifically geared toward coaching women in the south on how they can get engaged locally and build power.
We also went to Phoenix, Arizona, to talk with Maricopa County Democrats about the work we’re doing together to win at the local level. Check out our Facebook live with two of our candidates and the chair of the county party.
In RFS-adjacent news: There are a record number of women running for office in Nebraska — including RFS-endorsed candidate Megan Hunt.

You should definitely read this great story about all the public school teachers running for office in states where teachers have led walk-outs and strikes. It’ll give you hope. You also might like this list of lesbian, bisexual, queer, and/or trans women running for office across the country.
Finally, we’ve got two great events coming up: New York City on May 18th and Party for Something with Senators Booker, Gillibrand, and Warren in D.C. on June 6th. Would love to see you at one or both!
Thanks for making all this possible. Our team is growing, our candidate slate is growing, and our work is picking up the pace (if you can even imagine!) — and it’s all because of your support.
Miss last week’s update? Don’t worry. We’ve got you covered.
