Feel-good update: Election results, Oklahoma, and ~the movement~ grows…
So many things this week to give you a good feeling!
So many things this week to give you a good feeling!
ELECTION RESULTS…
There were elections in Wisconsin last week — and two Run for Something candidates won! Congrats to Kelly Danner and Analise Eicher, who both ran for seats on the Dane County Board of Supervisors. In a tied election, 392–392, they literally rolled the dice to give RFS candidate Stephanie Spellman a win in the race for Winnebago County supervisor. The present and future is female.
We also finally closed the books on Illinois primaries from a few weeks back and after a recount, Kevin Morrison won his election by exactly 12 votes, and is moving on to the general for Cook County Commissioner, to go up against the chair of the IL GOP. Go, Kevin!
THE MOVEMENT IS GROWING…
If you’ve been with us for a while, you know we are obsessed with the potential for a Democratic surge in Oklahoma. Watching the teachers’ courageously strike is reinforcing that — we’re proud to be working with OK candidates across the Sooner State, and LOVE that it’s a family affair for one of our folks…
Black Enterprise ties the wave of millennials running for office in Memphis to MLK’s legacy in this powerful read. The Wasau Daily Herald talks about the scores of millennials running for office in Wisconsin, too. (The movement is real!)
A small update on candidate recruitment: Tennessee Democrats are fielding candidates for 111 out of 117 legislative districts — keep in mind that a recent poll gives Phil Bredesen a double-digit lead over Marsha Blackburn… That massive number of local candidates talking to voters and getting folks to the polls could help Democrats win up and down the ticket.
OUR CANDIDATES RULE.
We’ve partnered with Reappropriate, a popular blog about Asian American culture, to highlight some of our candidates. Check out this profile of Tram Nguyen, running for MA state rep.
Finally, take a look at some snapshots of our candidates knocking doors, going to community events, and talking to voters about local issues, doing the real work that gets folks to the polls and wins elections.
Thanks for making all this possible. We’re so glad to be on this team with you.
