Feel-good update: How we help
How Run for Something actually supports young diverse progressives running for local office.
Hope your Thanksgiving was delicious & relaxing.
The #1 question we get from supporters is an understandable one: “What do you all actually do for candidates?”
Hear from J.B. Smiley on the Memphis City Council and Elaissia Sears, a judge in West Mesa, Arizona on how our regional team works directly with candidates.
Sarah Ullman, who runs One Vote At A Time, explains how we connect partners to candidates — and Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo shares the other side of that, as a candidate who got help from the group Sarah runs.
Rep. Anna Eskamani in FL explains how our endorsements helped get her campaign off the ground.
Hadiya Afzal shares how our press relationships got her on the cover of Teen Vogue and the front page of HuffPost.
There’s more videos on how our mentorship program, resource hub, and our alumni network all benefit the folks we work with. Take a look, watch, & feel good, because this is what your support makes possible.
In other news, we have a few more folks in elections this year. Two to keep an eye on:
Rachel Junck is in a run-off for a seat on the Ames City Council on December 3rd to become the youngest elected official in the state of Iowa.
Zack Quintero is up against a longtime incumbent in a run-off on December 10th for a seat on the Albuquerque City Council
In case you needed yet another reminder on how important state legislatures are: Ohio legislators just introduced a bill that puts doctors in a position of being charged for “abortion murder” if they don’t perform a procedure that literally doesn’t exist.
Rachel Maddow did an entire segment on the states where, because of state law, abortion will be banned if the Supreme Court overturns or undermines Roe v. Wade. Note: The best way to ensure bad laws don’t get in front of conservative courts is to elect good pro-choice legislators who don’t let them pass in the first place.
Finally, we have two events coming up: Tomorrow night in D.C., join Ross & VA Delegate-elect Joshua Cole and school board member-elect Abrar Omeish in Adams Morgan. On December 10th, join us, the DLCC, and the NDRC in New York City for a strategy session — just reply for RSVP details.
Thanks for making all this possible.
