Feel-good update: New endorsements, Medicaid expansion, & Breitbart
So, we had a week. How about you?
Good morning! We had a chaotic week.
On Wednesday: We endorsed 38 new candidates! Meet them all.
May endorsements
The May round of Run for Something endorsed candidates are a diverse group, but they’ve got two things in common: heart…medium.com
They’re running in 21 states and include three immigrants, eight educators, two arts administrators, a police supervisor, a varsity basketball coach AND a candidate who could become the first Deaf person elected to a state legislative position in the United States (!!). We are SO excited about this class, which brings us to more than 400 endorsed candidates since we launched. You can see how excited they are in this Twitter moment.
Also on Wednesday: Virginia expanded Medicaid to 400k people, in part thanks to the Run for Something candidates who won seats in the state house last fall. Electing Danica Roem, Jennifer Carroll Foy, Kelly Fowler, Chris Hurst, and Schuyler VanValkenburg in 2017 means people get health care in 2018. That rules. Be proud of what you did.
Then on Friday: Breitbart came for us. On June 6th, we’re throwing our first big fundraiser, Party for Something, in D.C., joined by Senators Gillibrand, Warren, and Booker. Breitbart (along with a few other conservative outlets) don’t like what we’re doing, so put pressure on our initial venue to cancel just a few days out. Axios wrote it up succinctly — for lack of a better phrase, this was utter bullshit. We could have called it quits and thrown up our hands, but, as you all know, that’s just not who we are.

Thanks to the flood of kind offers and our supporters’ generosity, we’ve got a new location, and honestly, we think what we’re putting together for Wednesday might be even better. Tickets are still available, so gets yours before we sell out.

So that was last week… Two other things to make you feel good!
Three under-23 candidates are the cover stars of Teen Vogue’s June digital edition — including our very own Hadiya Afzal, running for Dupage County Board. Read the story!

Just wanted to highlight this tweet from Matthew Calcara, one of our candidates in Kansas. The community we’re building is really something special.
Thanks for everything you do to make this possible. We’ve got a bunch of folks on the ballot tomorrow — and a big event on Wednesday! — and we wouldn’t want to do this work with any other amazing group of supporters.
